These Wisconsin fire insurance maps give a wealth of historical information; locations of buildings, owners names, type and purpose of structures, often the date the building was built, building capacity etc. in a large -scale map format.

Genealogical Resources
The L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library provides access to a major subscription genealogical service (Ancestry Library Edition) and recommended genealogy web sites

Ancestry Library Edition (available on any Internet computer at the library)
With over 1.2 billion records in over 3,000 databases, Ancestry Library Edition is the most comprehensive online source of information for conducting genealogical and local history research available. Included in Ancestry Library Edition are the digitized images of the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 forward, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index and much more.

Family Search
A user-friendly genealogical database that may be the largest collection of free family history, family tree and genealogy records in the world.

HeritageQuest Online (Library Bar Code Required)
Provides access to one of the largest collections of genealogy material in the country. Included are over 25,000 word-searchable family and local histories; searchable versions of all available U. S. Federal Census (1790-1930) with completely new indexes created by HeritageQuest; and more.

Listed below are the indexes created and maintained by the Genealogical Research Society of Eau Claire (GRSEC) or Cheryl Janke.  These are volunteer projects undertaken by members of the GRSEC and may not be complete or without error.  These indexes are available directly from the library website.  Just click any index title to get started.

The Obituary Index
An index to obituaries found in Eau Claire County newspapers from 1858 to the present. It contains the names of thousands of people who were born, married, died, buried, worked, etc. in Eau Claire County. This is a volunteer project undertaken by members of the GRSEC and may not be complete or without error.

The Cemetery Index
An index to many cemeteries in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin. Cemeteries included are B'nai B'rith, Bethlehem, Brunswick, Calvary, Drammen, East Lawn/Side, Hadleyville, Hales Corners/Scotts Valley, Hay Creek, Holy Guardian Angel, Lakeview, Lincoln, Ludington, Lutheran Church, Oak Grove, Orchard, Pleasant Valley, Prince of Peace, Rest Haven, Sacred Heart, St. Bridget’s, St. Luke's, St. John's (Eau Claire and Fall Creek), St. Patrick's, St. Paul’s, Thompson Valley, Trinity, Union, West Lawn/Side, and Zion.
Forest Hill Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the City of Eau Claire, is not available here at this time. The index is found only in book form.

An old version of East Lawn and West Lawn Cemeteries in Augusta, WI are searchable here. A newer version is available only in book form.

The Brides and Grooms Index
